The Darkness [DVD]

** The Darkness [DVD]** The Darkness has garnered a varied reception from viewers, primarily focusing on its supernatural horror elements, character development, and pacing. Many fans of the genre appreciate its mixture of conventional horror themes akin to classic films like Poltergeist, praising the notable performances, particularly that of Kevin Bacon. Reviewers have found the scares to be effective, with some stating that it remains a compelling addition to their collection, even citing positive experiences shared with family, including younger audiences. One of the standout features of The Darkness is its attempt to portray a character with autism as central to the narrative. This representation is acknowledged by several viewers as a refreshing departure from typical storytelling in horror films, adding layers to the character dynamics and family interactions underscored by the supernatural events. However, while some appreciate the film's focus on character development, others have criticized the pacing, suggesting that it often felt slow, which detracted from the overall suspense and tension that horror enthusiasts generally seek. Viewer feedback ranges from avid recommendations for its aesthetic and character-driven storyline to harsh criticisms labeling it poorly executed, disjointed, and lacking in substance. Some viewers felt that the script and plot mechanics were cliché and uninspired, particularly critiquing predictable horror tropes and a perceived lack of originality in the story's premise involving Native American folklore. Despite the division in opinion, The Darkness seems to resonate strongly with audiences who enjoy character-based narratives in horror, while also polarizing those looking for more traditional scare tactics. **
